Responsible citizenship

Founding Forward’s Good Citizen Day presented by the Sacramento Chapter is an all-day civics program at the Robert Matsui Federal Court building where 10th and 11th-grade students will gain an in-depth understanding of the Constitution and its vital role in protecting the rights of citizens proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence.

This fast-paced, immersive program encourages students to engage in civil discourse while realizing their rights and responsibilities as United States citizens. The Founding Forward Good Citizenship Award and certificate is presented upon successful completion of the program. Recipients will also be able to add this recognition to their resume and college application.

Nomination Process

Nomination Deadline: August 1, 2025

Students for this program are nominated by partner organizations and surrounding schools throughout the Greater Sacramento area. General applications outside of the approved agencies and schools are not accepted.

Students are nominated by their agencies for the following qualities: demonstrate hard work and fair play, have personal attributes of honesty, courage, tolerance, curiosity, and loyalty, and endeavors to follow and uphold the principles of American patriotism.

Active Citizens

Awardees are encouraged to return to participate in additional Founding Forward programs and opportunities about citizenship, civics, and liberty – and be part of the community.

The hope is for Good Citizen Day to be the start of a lifelong relationship with the Founding Forward community.
